Online CME Sources for Pediatrics

Corinna Bowser, MD
Pediatric Chief Resident
SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY

Online CME is a great way to earn credits quickly. There is no shortage of good, high-quality CME programs in pediatrics that can be had for free. Others may charge $5 to $15 per credit or offer a subscription plan. Most online CME programs simply require that you review online content (i.e. slideshows, text, audio lectures) and take a brief evaluation exam.

This PowerPoint presentation gives a brief primer in online CME and has some good starting points. It was written by Bernard Sklar, MD, MS, who maintains a well known, comprehensive list of online free/pay CME programs. In addition, here are some sites we like:

Medscape - Pediatrics CME Center - Medscape offers free, continuously updated continuing education activities. Website has a "CME Tracker" so you can keep track of your CME activities. Requires free registration.

Baylor College of Medicine Online CME (Pediatrics) - Pediatrics page lists 8 current programs, 0.75-1.75 credits per program.

AAP PediaLink - 2 modules, each with 22 credit hours. Cost for Credit is $79 to $209, depending on level of training and AAP membership status.

Pediatrics in Review - My CME - Sign in using your AAP ID and password. This AAP publication has no online CME programs, but using this system, you can:

eMedicine - Pediatrics - 1.5 hours free to registered users, $7.50 per 1.5 hours after that.
